Building on its unique history of expertise in materials science, Arkema designs a wide variety of polymers, coatings, and adhesives to address tomorrow’s transportation challenges.  In hydrogen fueled vehicles, Arkema’s bio-based Rilsan® Polyamide 11 is a well proven hydrogen barrier material for type IV gas cylinders and fuel lines. This same Rilsan® Polyamide 11 material can also be used as a thermoplastic composite matrix in type V hydrogen tanks.

Arkema’s Piezotech® flexible sensors are a durable and sensitive alternative to ceramic sensors used on hydrogen tanks to monitor the health of the system. In electrified vehicles, Arkema has a range of solutions for both inside and outside of the battery cell, including Kynar® PVDF for cathode binders and separator coatings. Outside the cell, Rilsan® PA11 is used as a busbar insulation material and as a battery cooling line material.
